About Turkana County

Turkana County occupies Kenya's northwestern region bordering Uganda, South Sudan, Ethiopia, West Pokot, Samburu, Marsabit and Baringo. Lodwar is the county headquarters. The county consists of arid plains, volcanic hills and the western shores of Lake Turkana. The Turkana community forms the majority of the population and maintains a rich pastoral culture. Livestock production, fishing, tourism and oil extraction are key economic activities. Lake Turkana supports fisheries and attracts visitors for its scenery and archaeological heritage.
